Papers are Killing Papers

In my constant quest to get the world to agree that a micropayment system for online journalism makes sense, I’ve made another valiant post on Jeff Jarvis’s blog Buzzmachine in support of micropayments.

It was in reaction to his reaction to a reaction to an article in the Atlantic by James Fallows.  It was a really great article.   And it had a great graphic showing the effect of Craigslist (and the internet) on newspaper advertising.

Craigslist2I truly believe that the era of micropayments is upon us.  These are the ‘end of days’ as far as free content is concerned.

All it is going to take is one big push by several large papers and one or two good technology companies  – who will make a mint – and news aggregation will be a vestige of the past, like Napster.
